The development of scalable DB infrastructure and solution for processing enormous amounts of heterogeneous and time-sensitive data started in 1999 when Vlad joined ICF Kaiser (now ICF International) and faced the challenge of developing the data structure for the Energy Vision suite of products for Utilities. At that time, both ML and AI were in the inception state. Still, the core concepts laid into the Energy Vision DB Layer foundation were generic enough to be matured and grown over the next 20 years into a full-scale AI DB. This AI DB shares the most significant innovation introduced during that time – the flexible EAV structure with a combination of history-aware entities, attributes, and ‘tall’ and multi-scaled ‘wide’ data tables. The pioneering approach helped EnergyVision become the de-facto standard for Utility-scale data warehouses in the early 21st century, with over a dozen Utilities worldwide acquiring and installing the System by 2003. Such great success led to a series of acquisitions of Energy Group, first by Nexus Energy Software, then by Aclara. From 2010-2014 Vlad continued to develop and strengthen EAV-style DBs while collaborating with Sun Edision and working on a few projects funded by EPA. During that time, the System was ported to Cloud and further optimized to handle increasing amounts of data. Since 2015, major refactoring has occurred once more - the engines associated with the DB have been refactored to target ML-AI tasks in the areas of Adaptive Algorithmic Advertising and Finance. With more than 20 years of success stories associated with highly flexible DB-for-ML infrastructure, the concept of AIDB was born, and we founded Optimax AI.
